Honorable Mention I Have Never Seen the Aurora Borealis Wendy C I have never seen the aurora borealis and only know of rainbows with arms to embrace the whole sky from my sister, the desert hare, who lives in wide and dry spaces. But I have seen the Grand Canyon spread in gold and red before me and I’ve been speechless on a frigid November pre-dawn as the Leonid shower seared the heavens. I have heard the sharp gasp of the newly born, a first acceptance of this world; and I have heard the sigh of release from one in pain, in death, a final courage to say goodbye. Sometimes something as simple as the sun through the leaves above the lane, in patterns of yellow and green, brings about a sudden drop in pressure that empties me of myself, And I am the whorl of atoms, the dance of galaxy suns. It is mystery which makes us complete.
